Pico Austria 5350m. & Pequeño Alpamayo 5430m.

This option to  climb Pequeño Alpamayo gives you an extra day of acclimatization doing hiking of Pico Austria 5350m.

From the summit, we will have views of Lake Titicaca, the highlands, and the entire Condoriri region and west face of Mt. Huayna Potosi 6088 meters.

Pequeno Alpamayo 5430m. is very easy to climb up to Pico Tarija (5.330 m / 17.486ft. ). Then, you’ve got to go down to the rock before climbing 100m of inclined slope at 50 / 55º to reach the summit.

Physical Requirements

Climbing Pequeño Alpamayo is physically demanding, as the high altitude.

For that reason is recommended for who will climb it. Has a good fitness and acclimatization,  becasuse it will make the climb easier and more enjoyable.

Itinerary

8:30 am Meeting at our Office or at the meeting point La Paz – Bolivia
9:00 am we will drive for about 3 hours out of the city and through the Andean highlands until Rinconada (14,7639 ft./4500 m) from where we start the trek.
1:00 pm We will walk 2 hours to reach Base Camp (15,419 ft./4700 m).
3:00 pm Arrival at Base Camp. later free time, during the afternoon to enjoy the view of mountain Condori accompanied by hot drinks.
5:00 pm Dinner and Night in Tents or at Refuge.

We will have breakfast at 8:00a, then at 9:00 am we Will walk up to Pico Austria 3 hours hiking.

from Autria peak (5350m. /17522ft)    , we can see the entire shape of the Mountain Condoriri,(shape of a Condor with its wings spread wide), Lake Titicaca, the west face of Huayna Potosi, and numerous other peaks of the Cordillera Real. Later we descend in one houur to Chiakhota  lagoon 4700 m.  / 15419ft. . we will set up our camp, at the lagoon shore.

1:30 am Wake up, breakfast, and preparation with climbing equipment.
2:30 am Ascent 5 to 6 hours to the top, we start on a fairly flat road until we reach the ice and snow of the glacier. We continue climbing up slopes of up to 30 degrees until we reach Pico Tarija (17,388 ft./5,300 m).

After Pico Tarija, we climb the two most difficult slopes with an incline of 45 to 50 degrees for 60 meters and 40 meters respectively.

Approximately 8:00 am, After the last steep section, we reach the summit of Pequeño Alpamayo (17,814 ft./5430 m) where we can appreciate the view of the Andean highlands, the Cordillera Real and the subtropics. We stayed on the summit long enough to enjoy the view and take photos.
The descent to the base camp will take approximately 3 hours.

At the base camp we will eat and later we retun to La Paz City.

PACKING LIST:

 

  • Sleeping bag rated to – 15 º c (Opcional to rent 100 BS).
  • Headlamp, If  the customer does not have it  will be included just the customer needs to buy the batteries 3 AAA to use it.
  • Backpack (minimum 50 liter capacity)
  • Trekking pants and leggings
  • Fleece jacket and down jacket
  • 3 pairs of socks (one thick)
  • Snacks (Chocolates, sweets, fresh fruits etc., for ascent to the Summit).
  • Sunglasses
