01ITINERARY:
Shared hotel pick-up will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., depending on your hotel’s location. Pick-up service is available only from hotels located in central La Paz.
Once all participants have been collected, we will begin a 2.5-hour drive to the Tiwanaku Archaeological Site.
The guided visit at Tiwanaku lasts approximately two and a half hours. During this time, you will explore and learn about the following highlights:
- Puerta del Sol (Gateway of the Sun)
- Puerta de la Luna (Gateway of the Moon)
- Kalasasaya – a ritual platform measuring 130 m x 120 m with impressive stone steps
- Semi-Subterranean Temple – a 26 m x 28 m sunken courtyard featuring 178 carved stone heads
- Two on-site museums
At 1:00 p.m., we will stop for lunch. After lunch, your guide will indicate the final attraction of the tour.
The return to La Paz is scheduled for approximately 4:30 p.m., with drop-off in the city center, where the tour concludes.
Tiwanaku (Tihaunaco) is one of the most important ancient civilizations in the world and more is being learnt about it every day. For anyone with an interest in the history of Andean cultures and archaeology it is a worthwhile day trip from La Paz.
