Condoriri trek is a fantastic trek in the Cordillera Real in a region of lakes and peaks known as Condoriri. or the place of the condor in Aymara.
This region is frequented by climbers who take advantage of a single scenic lakeside base camp that affords accessibility to multiple peaks. Our trek the first day will take us up the Condoriri valley past several pristine lakes.
The following day we will ascend a beautiful trekking peak known as Pico Austria (5350 meters), with views of multiple glaciated peaks all the while. From the summit, we will have views of Lake Titicaca, the highlands, and the entire Condoriri region.

While this itinerary covers the same ground as our one-day Pico Austria trek, the two-day schedule allows for a more relaxed pace, better acclimatization, and ample time to fully immerse yourself in the scenery. Spending the night beside the chiar Khota lagoon enhances the overall experience, offering peaceful solitude and the chance to truly connect with this extraordinary Andean landscape.
The Condoriri Trek is ideal for adventurers hikers high-altitude trekking, stunning mountaineering scenery, and an authentic Bolivian mountain experience — all within a compact two-day journey.
ITINERARY:
We will pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 AM in La Paz City (3,600 m / 11,811 ft.) and drive for around 3 hours through the Andean highlands until we reach Rinconada (4,500 m / 14,763 ft.), where we will start the trek after organizing our backpacks.
Our trek begins with a gentle uphill climb. After about 30 minutes, we will pass near a beautiful, small lagoon tucked into the area. From there, we’ll continue hiking for another hour until we reach the larger, stunning lagoon called Chiar Khota (4,700 m / 15,419 ft). Here, we’ll set up camp right on the lagoon’s serene shore, surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
In the afternoon, we can relax on the shores of Laguna Chiar Khota, enjoying a spectacular view of the imposing Condoriri Mountain and the surrounding peaks.
If we feel like walking a bit more, we can hike around Laguna Chiar Khota or continue further to get a closer look at the Condoriri Glacier and the base of Condoriri Mountain.
Later in the afternoon, we will have dinner. We will sleep in a basic shared public lodge. If you prefer to sleep in a tent instead, please inform the agency at least one day before the trip so they can provide a tent for you.
In the evening, we will have dinner and stay overnight at the lodge.
After an early breakfast, we will break down camp and begin the steeper ascent to Pico Austria (5,350 m / 17,552 ft.). The climb takes approximately three hours along a clear, rocky trail that is normally snow-free. However, during the rainy season, sections of the path may be covered with snow. We will continue steadily until we reach the summit.
From the top of Pico Austria, we are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views. Directly in front of us stands Mountain Condoriri, whose shape resembles a condor with its wings spread wide. We can also see Lake Titicaca, the west face of Huayna Potosí, and numerous other peaks of the Cordillera Real, offering an impressive 360-degree panorama of dramatic Andean mountaineering landscapes.
After enjoying the summit, we will descend for about one hour along the same trail back to Chiarkhota Lagoon to collect our camping gear. From there, we continue descending for approximately 40 minutes to Rinconada, where our vehicle will be waiting for us.
Finally, we will arrive to La Paz city (3,600 m / 11,811 ft.) in the afternoon aproximatly 5:30 pm.
