1 Day

Chacaltaya (5435m. / 17,831 ft.) is a mountain located in the Andes Mountains. Before it was the highest ski at the world, now it is visited for the incredible landscape around. Decades ago, the place was covered in snow, and a hotel and sky center operated not only for foreign tourists but also for wealthy local people. Unfortunately, since the 1990s, the snowy Chacaltaya began to thaw, and by 2009 the layer of ice and snow almost completely disappeared, bringing the iceskiing activity to an end. It is believed that the speed of its deterioration due to thawing was mainly due to the climate change suffered on the planet.
