The Volcano Parinacota (20,774 ft./ 6332m.) is part of the Western Cordillera. It is located in Sajama Park on the Bolivian and Chilean border. It offers spectacular views of its twin, the Pomerape. Its ascent is without any technical difficulty but is physically hard (AD / II). Volcanoes have caused the suffering of more than one mountain dweller, endless slopes, false summits and strong winds are their daily lives.
Itinerary
08:30am. Departure, after 4 hours driving in the afternoon we will arrive to Sajama Town located at (14,435 ft. / 4.400m asl.) Later option to visit Sajama town and hot Springs or just relax at the hostel. We will get dinner and sleep in a hostel.
2:00 am we will start; first we will take a 4WD behicle to Base Camp of Parinacota
5200m asl / 17,060 ft.. from there we start hiking to the summit.
Ascent without technical difficulty but physically demanding (AD/II).
Progressive climb on the Presence of penitent which makes the progression more difficult. However, at the end of the winter season. Ascent of the glacial dome (45º/50º max.). Long climb to the crater rim. 6 to 8 hours ascending from base camp. Descent to base camp (2 to 3 hours). Possibility to descent on the rocky part through another route. Descent to base camp where the vehicle awaits us to go Back to Sajama with the vehicle. Later Back to La Paz city. Arrival by the end of the day.
